What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is often an important component of the overall treatment plan to address a number of conditions, particularly non-invasive pain management, and works by assisting the body in naturally healing itself. Most dogs and cats tolerate the procedure very well, often calming down and even sleeping after the needles are placed.
There are several specific techniques that may be used, depending on the needs of your pet. The conventional and most common method uses extremely fine needles placed at specific points along the body. In electro-acupuncture, a very small current of electricity is applied across the acupuncture needles to enhance the effectiveness of this therapy. In aqua-puncture, a solution of saline or medication is injected into the acupuncture points.
